Coatings for Tough Environments
Lane offers powder coating as an alternative to liquid paint, utilizing finely ground particles that are electrostatically charged and sprayed onto parts. The parts are heated, melting the powder and forming a coating which is both physically and chemically bonded to the surface. These coatings are more durable than conventional liquid coatings and less expensive than comparable multi-coat liquid systems.
Originally developed to meet the early-day demands for epoxy-coated rebar, Lane accommodates the construction industry’s expanded applications, including structural steel, guide rail, bridge rail, sound wall posts, pilings and a host of other construction materials that require a higher level of functional protection.
Liquid painting can be challenging, where the end product may include flaws that could lead to corrosion and a poor finish. That’s why a more effective method was created: powder coating. This involves applying epoxy, polyester, or hybrid powders to protect and enhance surfaces. Essentially, it’s a way to dry-coat large areas for aesthetic, protective, or functional purposes.
Powder coating is a durable, dry alternative to liquid paints, made of finely ground particles applied with static electricity. Used for decades in products like streetlights, it offers high control over color, texture, and finish, allowing for customization.
Lane offers high-quality industrial powder coat finishes for larger products that need greater functional protection than traditional coatings provide. We achieve this through a commitment to quality assurance, advanced technology, and customer satisfaction. Our strict quality control measures ensure the finished product meets our high standards and those of our customers. We incorporate the latest technological innovations into our powder coating process to enhance quality and reduce lead times. As an employee-owned company, every team member is dedicated to meeting each customer’s needs, no matter their size.
Powder Coating Works Well with Numerous Fabricated Metal Products
Powder coatings can protect and enhance the appearance of a wide variety of fabricated metal products. Examples include:
- Metal fences and hand railings
- Aluminum parts and components
- Architectural metal products
- Ornamental iron used to manufacture decorative outdoor structures
- Outdoor enclosures
- Windows and doors
TYPES OF COATINGS
Epoxy Powders
Thermoset coatings resistant to heat, chemicals, and corrosion, ideal for steel pilings, rebar, and pipelines
Polyster Powders
Versatile coatings suitable for outdoor steel surfaces like automobile rims, building exteriors, roofing, fences, light poles, sound walls, and structural steel
Zinc-Rich Primers
Provide corrosion resistance for steel, serving as a base or standalone finish, enhancing durability and damage resistance
Polymer Coating
This coating system provides two layers of protection: a Zinc-Rich base layer and Polymer (Ethylene Acrylic Acid) finish to coat structural steel per ASTM A1113 for more corrosive and abrasive environments, or projects requiring extended service lines.

Benefits of Powder Coating for the Fabrication Industry
- Resiliency: Powder coating offers a durable, long-lasting finish with strong adhesion and some flexibility.
- Efficient application: Generally requiring a one-coat application, powder coating can be applied with greater precision than paint, which produces a more even finish.
- Affordability: Powder coating fabricated metal parts is usually cheaper than wet painting due to lower material costs, fewer steps, and easier per-project purchasing, which reduces waste.
- Multiple color options: Powder coating offers the flexibility to create a customized color result that meets your aesthetic requirements and to develop various textures and shades.
- Enhanced quality: Powder-coated finishes do not drip or run. This enables a smoother, more even application and reduces the need for additional sanding or buffing to correct application errors.
- Easy to maintain: Fabricated metal product customers value powder coating for its easy maintenance—just wipe with soapy water to preserve its look and protection, enhancing customer satisfaction and retention.
- Eco-friendly: Powder coatings contain no potentially harmful chemicals or solvents, and the process produces few or no volatile organic compounds.
